Objective
Currently, Nagoya University has established 27 Information Media Education Labs (Labs) on each of its campuses and provides educational desktop PCs, known as the 'Information Media Studies System.'
The current system is scheduled to cease operation in September 2025, and we are planning to replace it with a new system. In this update, we aim to "develop a learning environment based on BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)," enabling students to make the most of their own PCs for university learning. We plan to implement significant system improvements, including:
- Development of a BYOD-compatible software environment, for example…
- BYOD-compatible software licenses
- Licenses for web-based learning materials and exercise environments
- The removal of desktop PCs in most labs (*), repurposing them as "commons" to support self-directed learning.
Therefore, in the process of updating the system, we will conduct a survey to gather feedback from instructors responsible for each lecture and exercise on the following points:
- Readiness for BYOD implementation
- Challenges and existing issues related to BYOD
- Other opinions or suggestions for the future IT environments at the university
This survey is not limited to the course that currently uses the system; we welcome opinions from a variety of classes that utilize IT for their courses.
Having experienced the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the learning environment at our university has undergone significant changes, including the implementation of remote lectures and the distribution of digital learning materials. Considering these changes, we kindly request your valuable input regarding the future direction of Nagoya University's higher education and learning information environment.
(*) As for the requests of actual terminals for the purpose of computer-based testing (CBT), language training etc., we keep consultation with the responsible departments on a case-by-case basis.
